Over 30 of New York and San Francisco’s top restaurants & retailers are participating…and counting.

We are thrilled to once again celebrate Burgundy Week in 2015!

Restaurants

We have partnered with over 30 sommeliers from New York and San Francisco’s top restaurants in promoting Burgundy during the weeks leading up to La Paulée. Each has designed a Burgundy-centric wine promotion specific to his or her restaurant, with the goal of giving enthusiasts both new and old unique opportunities to discover the endless joys of the region.

Below you will find a list of participating restaurants accompanied by a brief explanation of why these sommeliers are in love with Burgundy, as well as a favorite pairing of theirs. Don’t delay in making your reservations at these restaurants, because their Burgundy Week promotions will conclude, along with La Paulée, on February 28th.

Retail

We are also pleased to announce the participation of select New York and San Francisco retailers in Burgundy Week this year that will be holding in-store Burgundy tastings and various other promotions. Be sure to check out each retailer's program below.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Longevity, complexity, intensity, minerality, acidity. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“I love that Burgundy is so food friendly. With each table typically ordering a wide variety of items from octopus to pasta to lamb, finding a wine that has the versatility to work throughout the entire meal is essential. Over and over, I find myself drawn to white and red Burgundy for that reason. So Burgundy with 'name a food' is one of my favorite pairings. But beyond that - Raveneau Montée de Tonnerre with our Trofie Nere squid ink and shellfish pasta. ”

We will offer a range of Burgundy wines by the glass

Why do I love Burgundy?
“I think 90% of the experience of great, mature Burgundy can be found in the wine's aromatics. There is no substitute for the haunting subtelty and detail found on the nose of a great, well-stored Burgundy from a serious producer and a capable vineyard site. There are many imitators, but no substitute for the real thing! ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Seared Branzino with butternut squash, grilled romaine heart, and pumpkin seed vinaigrette served with fresh and fine-boned Puligny-Montrachet. The 2010 Etienne Sauzet Puligny Champ Gain is a lovely choice. ”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Every village, every appellation, every climate brings so much diversity and complexity to the vines of Burgundy. For me, the talent of a great winemaker is his/her ability to finesse the imprint of terroir in their wines.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Seared Maine scallops, potatoes, young leeks, fresh black truffle sauce and a glass of (white) Meursault”

The Benoit team is ready to promote Aligoté, Chardonnay or Pinot Noir by the bottle, by the carafe or the glass, but also 2 grand crus (a white and a red) by the ounce from an ephemeral Burgundian wine list during La Paulée Burgundy Week.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“For an area that is relatively small in size, Burgundy's influence on the world of wine is huge - no other wine growing region produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with such reverence and prestige. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“At Betony, we have an "off menu" grilled red necked pheasant that is seasoned with foie gras and black truffles and screams for Burgundy. ”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is the reason that I am in the wine business today. I had one taste of an old Pommard and couldn't believe wine could taste like that! Now that I've had the chance to learn and taste more, I realize how amazingly versatile Burgundy can be. It has everything I want in a wine: fruit, earth, spice, delicacy, softness and balance. My desert island wine: CHABLIS ALL THE WAY! ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“At the moment, we offer a 2001 Clos Salomon Givry Premier Cru by the glass. It still has so much life to it, lots of fruit, earth, smoke, and spice. This goes so well with a fried egg dish that we send out still sizzling in the pan with parsnip, bacon, and jerusalem artichoke hash. ”

We will offer a couple different options for both red and white burgundies by the glass, at different levels and price points. We will also, in addition to our regular wine pairing, offer a full burgundy pairing with our farmer's feast tasting menu.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“I am in love with the diversity and specifics in terroir of Burgundy. No where else has a region been so proud and detailed in the analytical study of terroir, honing in on every aspect of viticulture that can only deem such an understanding as a cohesive relationship with the earth. Every appellation speaks boldly gifting wines that produce its own interpretation of the relationship with its microclimate. Stories, bottles and bottles of gorgeous stories. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Domaine de L'Arlot, 1er Cru 'Clos de l'Arlot Blanc', Nuits St. Georges, 2001 with the Provençale; a gorgeous scallop dish garnished with artichaut & vadouvan spice. A perfect marriage.”

We will choose two different burgundies (1 blanc and 1 rouge) that will be poured by the glass via Coravin. We will be pouring harder to acquire wines/vintages that are generally not offered by the glass and that are either highly allocated or no longer accessible.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“From its youthful stages to full maturity, the wines of Burgundy are uniquely alluring – both exotic and homey. The Meursaults of Mikulski send me back to memories of waking up at 4am to go fishing all day with my entire family. My eyes would light up at the sight of all the crabs we caught - my absolute favorite. And the best part was cooking some of our catch before we went home. Even a great Fixin does wonders with my favorite Filipino pork dishes my grandmother used to make. It elevates the beautiful, rich umami flavors, bringing back comforting memories of her home cooking.”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is the ultimate region for passionate geeks. The production is almost entirely focused on two grapes - Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - but they express myriad impressions based on tiny differences in soil, slope, aspect, and the hand of the winemaker. It’s a region that takes a lifetime (if not more) to master. There is always someone, something, or somewhere new to explore! ”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“What makes the wines from Burgundy so special is the unparalleled dedication to growing the three major grapes, Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Chardonnay. Whether you are a Negociant, Micro-Negociant, or you're an estate producer, you have one shared goal in common, and that goal is to let the soil give the finest expression of those three grapes possible. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Henri Pruhdon, Saint-Aubin, Les Castets, 2010 with our Salumi board! ”

We will show how wonderful French wine pairs with Italian food!

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is a constant source of learning and surprise. No matter how much you taste, read or visit, there's always so much more to discover. It's a fascinating and beautiful region that makes many of the best wines in the world. There is very little that can compare with an amazing glass of Burgundy.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“It's classic but still so very good, duck confit with wild huckleberries and herbed spaetzel with a glass of Raphet Morey-St-Denis. I had this for dinner recently here and it was simple, classic and super satisfying. ”

We try to offer wines, and Burgundy specifically, that are accessible to guests just starting to become more interested in wine as well as wines that are exciting finds for those who have had more experience as well. I never want our list to be inaccessible or snobby, it should be fun and surprising.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“I love how gracefully Burgundy ages: fun when it's young, but very fine with some years under its belt. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“The 2010 Sarrazin La Perrière Mercurey is a kick with our 9-hour Bolognese sauce and housemade pappardelle. French with Italian? Quel horreur! ; ) If we are to include Beaujolais, I love the Lapalu "Croix des Rameaux" 2008 Brouilly with our burger, medium rare. ”

Our program focuses about 50% of its attention on French wine, and many of those selections are Burgundy, both because the region is so significant historically and because it remains a food-friendly option for a wide range of cuisines.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“There is something magical about Burgundy. No other region can compare to the diverse range of styles or the pure expression of place. The wines are exceptional, the people kind and assiduous. It's the only region that keeps me coming back time and time again, always leaving me more intrigued and inspired.”

We will offer three selections by the glass for the two week period ranging in both style and price point. The wines will vary throughout the week... Older vintages included as often as possible!

Why do I love Burgundy?
“ No matter where I am in the world at the moment, when I drink Burgundy I am transported immediately to the tiny little villages sandwiched between Dijon and Lyon. No other wine region, offers this type of armchair-travel, at the level of great Burgundy.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Burgundy and Birds! Coq au Vin, Woodcock, Quail, all with a fantastic Chambolle-Musigny.”

I must admit in all candor that the wines of Meursault are closest to my heart. We will be pouring a different Meursault by the glass each night of the week!

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy produces wines that are among the most delicious Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Gamays in the world. These grapes act as the voices of the places in which they are grown, and centuries of work in the vineyards and domaines translate these voices into inimitable expressions of terroir. Good and great Burgundies are wines of rare beauty and unique essence. Burgundy produces wines that are among the most delicious Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Gamays in the world. What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“One of the great joys of Burgundy is how food-friendly and versatile the wines are with many cuisines. A favorite pairing at Tannin currently is Roasted Duck Breast with Butternut Squash, Pancetta and Cranberry Hash. It makes an excellent pairing with two reds that we currently feature by the glass from the Côte de Beaune: Nicolas Rossignol Bourgogne and Catherine et Claude Marechal Savigny-les-Beaune. ”

Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen is committed to representing the most exciting small, artisan, traditional wine producers working around the world. We offer about 300 wines by the bottle, nearly 1/3 of which are grown in the Burgundy region. We also offer a rotating list of 50 wines by the glass including many selections from top producers in Chablis (Yonne), Côte d'Or, Côte Maconnais, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is a wine lover’s soul mate. It engages our senses, inspires our imaginations, challenges our intellect, and flirts with our desires. It seduces and lovingly pleasures us time and again. Burgundy is a wine lover’s enchantment. No other wine demands so much from us, nor gives as much in return. It fascinates us with its pure reflection of soil and climate, along with the winemaking alchemists who magically transform in the bottle what nature has provided. Burgundy is a wine lover’s obsession. It consumes us in reverence for its sense of place and hollowed vineyards.Burgundy is born of the earth, yet manifests itself transcendentally in our consciousness. To know Burgundy is to love Burgundy. It’s the essential chapter in the book of life’s pleasures that needs to be read over and over again.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“I like to keep it simple. A jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and thou. A crunchy, rustic sour dough baguette, with some creamy Delice de Bourgogne is especially heavenly, when paired with a crisp, mineral-driven white Burgundy. The delicate fruit and lively acidity offers good counterpoint to the sharp and salty bite of the cheese. With a harder, heartier cheese, red Burgundy works its magic beautifully. Great things can come from simplicity, especially when the wine is great.”

67 Wine will be presenting two tastings during Burgundy Week:

Wednesday, February 25
Jeanne-Marie de Champs will be here with winemakers Jean-Pierre Cournut from Chateau de la Maltroye and Anne Parent from Domaine Parent for a tasting of their wines from 4:00 until 7:00 PM

Saturday, February 28
Erica Kraypohl from Cynthia Hurley Wines will be pouring wines from her Burgundy portfolio from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is mesmerizing and yet often beguiling; seemingly simple in many ways (after all, it's almost all Pinot Noir and Chardonnay), and yet endlessly complex. This tension is what makes Burgundy exciting, though certainly not without its frustrations. And despite the soaring prices for the top wines, Burgundy continues to surprise, as great young winemakers produce unexpected bargains from heretofore unheralded corners of the region. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“When it comes to great white burgundy, one could do no better than match the richness of a Premier Cru Chassagne-Montrachet with a simply grilled and seasoned filet of fish in an herb butter sauce. The high intensity of the chardonnay keeps the opulence in check and can produce wonderful synergy. ”

We plan to offer an exciting array of Burgundy to sample for our in-store tastings throughout the week. We also will offer discounted hand-selected cases of fine Burgundy.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“I love how Burgundy wines are a mirror of the place where they are grown. Although made from the same two grapes the wines are all so individual and different from each other. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“I love Red Burgundy with squab; I love White Burgundy with fish and shellfish in rich sauces; I love Macon with simply cooked fish; I love Morgon/Fleurie/Moulin à Vent/Julienas etc. with roast chicken and so many other dishes; and I love Chablis with everything! ”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is the chase, the allure, the passion, the dirty hands, the elegance, the rusticity, the grace, the power, the diversity, the perfume, the stinkiness, the highs and the lows. Burgundy as a region has it all and no matter the village, producer or vintage there are always that captivate and pull you in.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Simply roast chicken with winter vegetables and wild mushrooms. From white to red, this is the ideal "country dinner" that never goes wrong with good bottles of Burgundy.”

On Wednesday the 25th will be holding from 4pm to 6:30pm a tasting of Burgundy that will feature wines from 2012, 2011, 2010 and more.

Noted wines/producers will be:

Hospices de Beaune 2012s, d'Angerville Fremiet 2011, l'Arlot Clos des Forets 2011, Meo Camuzet 2012s & 2011s, Grivot Boudot 2010, Claude Dugat Gevrey 2012 , Chateau de La Tour Clos Vougeot 2012, Cathiard Thorey 2011 and more.... This tasting is complimentary.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“There are wine regions and then there is La Bourgogne. The ne plus ultra of them all. I could drink from Burgundy every single day for a year and not get bored. Is there another place on earth for which the same could be said? I don't think so. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“To be very specific, happiness is poulet rôti and a bottle of Domaine Simon Bize's beautiful expression of Savigny-les-Beaune, Les Vergelesses 1er Cru, from almost any vintage. Simple. ”

For La Paulee program we plan on offering at least one Burgundy seminar, off premises along with social pre-sale offers on selected wines via email with an opportunity for specially discounted pricing on selected wines. We will also offer a percentage off of all Burgundy, with a few exceptions, during La Paulee.
