March 2 – March 15, 2014

Over 30 of New York and San Francisco’s top restaurants & retailers are participating…and counting.

After the success of Burgundy Week in San Francisco and New York the past two years, we are thrilled to celebrate Burgundy Week in both cities in 2014!

Restaurants

We have partnered with over 30 sommeliers from New York and San Francisco’s top restaurants in promoting Burgundy during the weeks leading up to La Paulée. Each has designed a Burgundy-centric wine promotion specific to his or her restaurant, with the goal of giving enthusiasts both new and old unique opportunities to discover the endless joys of the region.

Below you will find a list of participating restaurants accompanied by a brief explanation of why these sommeliers are in love with Burgundy, as well as a favorite pairing of theirs. Don’t delay in making your reservations at these restaurants, because their Burgundy Week promotions will conclude, along with La Paulée, on March 15th.

Retail

We are also pleased to announce the participation of select New York and San Francisco retailers in Burgundy Week this year that will be holding in-store Burgundy tastings and various other promotions. Be sure to check out each retailer's program below.

Chef Daniel Boulud’s New York Restaurants

In honor of Burgundy Week, Daniel Boulud's family of New York restaurants will each serve wines from great vintages of one of the last 5 decades. DBGB will serve wines from the 2000's, DB Bistro Moderne from the 1990's, Bar Boulud from the 1980's, Café Boulud from then 1970's, and Restaurant Daniel from the 1960's.

"Daniel Johnnes is one of the foremost Burgundy experts in the US, and he brings a tremendous expertise to my group of restaurants. The decades of relationships he has cultivated with winemakers shows in the selections being poured throughout this week from the most sought-after domaines of Burgundy. This is a special tasting opportunity for wine lovers among us," says Daniel Boulud.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“As for my favorite thing about Burgundy, it would be a memory: Visiting for my first time in July 2011 with a group of sommeliers, we visited our favorite domaines over several days, ate and drank with the winemakers we revere, and I realized that no other place in the world brings those of us in the wine industry so close as Burgundy; we move a million-miles-per-minute throughout the year, but can slow down and take the time to really appreciate what we do together in Burgundy”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“The wines of Burgundy exhibit phenomenal complexity through absolute simplicity. One red grape. One white grape. Obsessively parsed vineyard plots. The vagaries of the weather. The hand of the vigneron. The magical thing about Burgundy is that it's exponentially greater than the sum of these parts.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“I love the 2009 Hubert Lignier Pommard Les Chanlins paired with our Grilled Red Snapper with Maitake Mushrooms, Fingerling Potatoes, and Thyme. I find that the earthiness of the mushrooms underlines the slightly more masculine style of the Pommard, without compromising the overall sense of delicacy and finesse in both wine and dish.”

We will offer two high-end Burgundy selections on the by-the-glass menu. In addition, we will feature one or two great bottles of Burgundy, which will change on a daily basis in the section of our wine list that offers a rotating special selection. We will also feature some Crémant de Bourgogne on our sparkling wine list.

“"I will always remember my very first trip to Burgundy - I was only an apprentice in sommellerie since 3 months - and i was lucky to go to JF Mugnier with my mentor and we had this great talk, long talk, a unique moment and at the end he asked me if I wanted to pick one of the opened bottles to take home and I picked my favorite... I never tried something like that, I was just speechless - and it turned to be Les Amoureuses 1999 - I had no clue about what it was, and learned after... this wine changed my life."”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“The nose alone on a great glass of Burgundy can keep me coming back again and again. No other wine has such a seductive quality before you even take a sip.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“I'll go a for a classic. Liberty Farms duck breast and a glass of red Burgundy simply can't be beat.”

We always offer both a white and red Burgundy by the glass at Jardinière. Beyond that, during La Paulée, we will also have two additional wines of Burgundy (white and red) open and featured on our chef's tasting menu and also available by the glass. We also have a Monday dinner series that includes wine pairings, so the Monday of that week will be devoted to the wine and food of Burgundy.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy is my favorite wine to serve at Sons & Daughters. I find romance in the vast expressions produced within the small region and am fascinated with its geographical diversity. Exploring our selection of Burgundy with a guest (whether newly intrigued or well-acquainted) always promises humbling and rewarding experiences; it's impossible not to fall in love with Burgundian wines. ”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“This past winter, our Chef showcased celery root by transforming it into a silky soup accented with pickled kohlrabi, nasturtium, and smoked bread crumbs. With such a heart-warming dish, I chose to pair it with a Domaine de la Cadette's 'La Chatelaine' Chardonnay from Vézelay. The creamy texture of the wine echoed that of the soup itself, with the pickled kohlrabi highlighting the brightness and acidity of the Vézelay; the pairing was strong, yet humble.”

Our restaurant solely offers a seven-course tasting menu, featuring ingredients from our garden with optional wine pairings. During La Paulée Burgundy Week, we will be highlighting Burgundy on our tasting menu, wine by the glass list, and wine list.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Burgundy produces wines that are among the most delicious Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Gamays in the world. These grapes act as the voices of the places in which they are grown, and centuries of work in the vineyards and domaines translate these voices into inimitable expressions of terroir. Good and great Burgundies are wines of rare beauty and unique essence. Burgundy produces wines that are among the most delicious Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Gamays in the world. What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?
“Currently, Tannin's butter-poached wild cod with crispy potato rosti, roasted cauliflower and cashew gremolata paired with very good Meursault, or an excellent white from the Maconnais. There is a wonderful textural affinity between the dish, which has both richness and crunch, and the power, elegance and definition of top-quality white Burgundy.”

In addition to special Burgundies by the glass, tasting flights and wine dinners, Tannin will also be hosting a guided tasting called "Burgundy: Tour the Terroir" featuring many wines from all over the region of Burgundy.

Guillaume d'Angerville Pours at Crush:
Tuesday, March 11th
RSVP today!

We are very happy to welcome Guillaume d'Angerville for a very rare and special tasting event.

The wines of d'Angerville are very close to our hearts. Of course, there's a legion of Burgundy fans who share this sentiment.

It's with great excitement that Crush hosts Guillaume d'Angerville on Tuesday, March 11th between 6 & 7:30.

The tasting is FREE but we ask that you RSVP to events@crushwineco.com.

Please join us in welcoming one of Burgundy's greats. We will be pouring a selection of d'Angerville's Volnays along with a trio of wines from Domaine du Pélican, an exciting new Jura project from D'Angerville. (Please see the full list below.) We will be tasting Pélican's inaugural 2012 vintage.

Guillaume D'Angerville became obsessed with the Jura after a sommelier in Paris poured him a glass of Chardonnay blind and he was very impressed, believing that it was a Burgundy. This sent him offon a five year search to find a choice location in the Jura.

D'Angerville's Burgundies need little introduction. They are some of the most sophisticated, refined and long-lived around.

This is an event not to be missed.

The tasting is FREE but we ask that you RSVP to events@crushwineco.com.

Why do I love Burgundy?
“I love Chardonnay and I love Pinot Noir and Gamay too. All three of these noble grapes have great natural acidity and distinct flavors that mirror the different soils that they are grown in. You can taste the limestone in a Chambolle Musigny, you taste the chalk in Chablis, you can smell the blue granite in some Beaujolais and in Saint Amour you can taste the difference in the wines grown in granitic soils and those wines grown in limestone soils. Of all of the world's wine growing regions, Burgundy is perhaps the most site-specific in this way. For example, Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru aux Combottes is located in a slight dip between Clos de la Roche and Latricieres Chambertin, two Grand Crus. It produces a great wine, very mineral in character and very different from its two great neighbors.

Go up and down the slopes in Burgundy and the slight variations are apparent in the glass. The endless permutations on the theme are mind boggling, mesmerizing, and seductive in their complexity. These are wines for people who admire delicacy and precision, who like to think about wine, who enjoy exploring.”

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Power, earthiness, grace, and delicacy are just some of the words to describe the sublime wines of Burgundy. In truth, however, it is the uniqueness and diversity of terroir translated into liquid that is the ultimate draw of the region. When the clear expression of site is articulated in the glass, the wines of Burgundy can achieve the sublime.”
What is my favorite Burgundy pairing?

Why do I love Burgundy?
“Often with wine the connection between man and nature is lost in the shuffle between critical acclaim, price, and the status a given bottle imparts on its bearer - good Burgundy reminds us of our own humble origins as stewards of the land, with every sip a passage to some noble patch of dirt and vine.”
